This article could also be named "Inside Amptek" because this is its objective, to show how is Amptek and who they are. It also my acknowledgement to Jorge Bueno, the man behind Amptek, and a way to say thank to Jorge for his job and services that he has provided to all tube lovers during the last 10 years.
Amptek is a small company located in Barcelona, Spain. It is devoted to sell vacuum tubes and electronic parts for audio, hi-fi and musical instruments. They also build hifi and guitar amps, all custom and hand made under customer demands. Amptek also has a technical service devoted to hifi and instrument tube equipement and also sells literature about tube electronics.
I first met Amptek in 1997 when, due to my love to classic tube amps, I needed their services. Then I found Amptek after visiting a guitar shop (Auvisa) where I went to buy some tubes for my first classic tube amp, a Vieta A-217. The people at Auvisa told me that what I needed was at Amptek. Before going to Amptek, I also searched the internet for the tubes I needed and I found them at Groove Tubes. I ask the people at Groove Tubes how to buy their tubes and they told that they had a spanish distributor and that it was, then, Amptek. So, after these two evidences I went to Amptek. That's how I knew Amptek and Jorge Bueno, its founder.
I clearly remember the feelings I had when I went to Amptek. Is was a hot summer day, last days of August, and I went there with no hopes, because my searching for vacuum tubes in my city and for anyone who can service my amp had been equal to zero. In fact I had heard many times sentences like "where are you going with that thing?" or "nobody can fix that" or "there arent' tubes available". So I hadn't any hope. But the door at Amptek opened and I saw the light. There, I found only tube equipment and the two people who were behind that door, one of them was Jorge Bueno, weren't surprised when I began to talk about tubes, tube amps, about servicing my classic amp, etc. And since then I found all the answers to my questions about tube amps at Amptek.
During all these years the team managed by Jorge Bueno at Amptek has taken care of all my classic amps, all the amps you can see in this web site. They have all the technical knowledge to do that and all the materials, spares and supplies to get you amp in perfect shape. And they are also very kind!
All along these years Amptek has been growing firmly, basicaly focusing in two major areas: first, as a technical service highly specialized in tube equipment. This service is used by many costumers, including professionals, hifi and guitar shops, etc. Second, as a manufacturer of hifi and guitar amplifiers. As a hifi manufacturer you may already know the George Hi-Fi 50/50 amplifier (see also articles at Audio Nirvana George Hi-Fi 50/50 integrated tube amplifier and George Hi-Fi 50/50 with KT66 tubes). As a guitar amplifier manufacturer you may also known their excellent custom hand made amps sold under the GTA brand.
In both fields, hifi and guitar amplification, Amptek has found its place in national an international markets. The George HiFi 50/50 is widely known in Spain and so are the GTA guitar amps among musicians who are in the search for tone.
Now I'm going to show you some pictures of Amptek and the Amptek Team (only Christian is mising in the pictures because he wasn't at home when I took them). Finally, I would like to thank Amptek and Jorge Bueno for his great job. And to all tube lovers I would recommend a virtual tour at Amptek's web site or a phone call or personal visit to Amptek offices. You won't be dissapointed.
